On the way back from work tonight I hit an opossum. I was slightly devestated, never having murdered anything before, and decided to text my friend about it. “I think I just killed a possum” is what I wrote. After sending the text I decided I should check out the spelling of the word so I could prepare myself for a condescending reply in case “possum” was incorrect. Well, guess what! It turns out opossums and possums are two entirely different animals! In the Western Hemisphere we have opossums and down in Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and other places in the Eastern Hemisphere there are possums. Maybe I should watch more Animal Planet because this is news to me.
